Spreadable Media: Creating Value and Meaning in a Networked Culture
Spreadable Media: Creating Value and Meaning in a Networked Culture (2013) by Henry Jenkins, Sam Ford, and Joshua Green looks at changes that are currently taking place in our media environment. By looking at examples of music, games, television programs and advertising industries, the authors effectively prove that the frameworks of contemporary media are changing and are headed in the direction of participatory model of business and circulation. All in all, Spreadable Media provides a great look at our current media environment and shows how people are spreading ideas in the digital age.
As the authors write,"Our approach doesn't presume that new platforms liberate people from old constraints but rather suggests that the affordances of digital media provide a catalyst for..."
-reconceptualizing other aspects of culture
-requiring the rethinking of social relations
-the reimagining of cultural and political participation
-the revision of economic expectations
-the reconfiguration of legal structures.
In this review, I am going to look at the concepts in bold above and discuss and analyze the points made by Jenkins, Ford and Green. Clicking on the tabs on the side of the page will lead you to the different sections of the blog.
